Routines, Rhythm... & Wordle

We are starting a new life, not taking a “vacation”. Airbnb facilitates embedding yourself in a community vs. being a “guest” in a hotel. This means no room service, no turndown service… no set “service” of any kind. Okay, so we are used to having to figure out how to work strange coffee makers, showers, and TVs; but if it wasn’t for “You Tube” tutorials, we may not have been able to cook food or clean our clothes. But these minor challenges are not what stands in the way of living or feeling like a “local”.
Truth be told, Eric & I may never achieve our goal to “live like a local” anywhere. The most glaring difference now is that we only have each other. At home we had a broad social network, a community, that included playing in golf leagues, volunteering for several organizations, a place to worship, and evenings with other couples or friends, often independent of each other (ie girls’ night out). Childhood friends, ones made later, and especially our siblings, our children and grandchildren all added the frosting and sprinkles on the cake of the life we built.
In trying to establish some routine, we did join a gym; and are still watching the same Netflix shows we started “at home” but there is no real rhythm yet and that is weird. It’s only been a week, so I know I should give myself some grace while this new life melds into something that feels more “normal” … and I guess that’s ok, and when I just realized I didn’t WORDLE yesterday, I had to laugh. This is my new life, and WORDLE may or may not fit in, and that’s okay.
