A Little rain must fall...

It’s been a crazy run of weather. We left home on July 15th and today, August 29th, is our very first truly rainy day. During our first month traveling through England, Wales, and Luxembourg, the only rain we encountered was a minute or two of mist in Brighton. Sadly, those countries are suffering through a severe drought that is starting to have serious consequences. We’ve been in Stockholm now for over two weeks. Despite warnings from locals that it’s a rainy city, we've only seen two brief days of showers, until today.

Like the weather, Stockholm has exceeded our expectations. First of all, it is beautiful. The city is comprised of 14 islands connected by 50 bridges, meaning by just walking you are rewarded with amazing panoramic views of historic buildings sitting right at the edge of the Baltic Sea or Lake Mälaren framed by a massive blue sky.

Stockholm perfectly blends European charm; i.e., cobblestone streets, boutique shops, and sidewalk cafes with modern perks like great restaurants and a far reaching metro system.

After a slow start to get the lay of the land, our itinerary is getting packed. We’ve been to concerts on back-to-back nights, attended a traditional kraftskiva (crayfish party), and ventured out into the archipelago of 30,000 islands.

Tomorrow, we are heading to our third sauna and cold plunge, this time into the Baltic Sea. We also have a two-day cruise to the Åland Islands coming up, alongside a guided mushroom foraging trip in the forest outside the city.

So, the fact that we are sitting inside for most of the day today is actually a well earned break. You need some downtime on a trip like this. We’ll probably end up going to a movie anyway (ps - we did).
